Saritza is actively acquiring upmarket women’s fiction and romance in adult and young adult, as well as horror, science fiction/fantasy, mystery/thriller/suspense and graphic novel. I'm now open to nonfiction categories as well. Particularly excited to see more humor, cooking, history, parenting, and mind/body/spirit books.
In the Adult romance market, she's particularly interested in #OwnVoices contemporary romance stories featuring persons of color, cowboys/vaqueros, intercultural relationships, small-town contemporary romances and historical romance set in 19th century America and the Caribbean. Would also love to see a historical romance set in 1920s through 1940s or during the 1980s in the South, specifically. Small town male/male romantic comedies are her jam! She’s also looking for hard science fiction romance (space opera, interplanetary adventure with a romance story at its core).
She is also also looking for Adult and YA Horror with a focus on works that twist a classic trope into a contemporary setting. Give her terrifying works featuring Bram Stoker's vampires and maybe a Romerian zombie in the White House (then again, this could be less fiction than she thought). She wants gothic horror, classic monsters reimagined. "Scare me and thrill me at the same time. I dare you."
Science Fiction/Fantasy with a focus on works that blend the genres in new and inventive ways; where magic and science collide. Books like Binti by Nnedi Okorafor do this beautifully. She'd love to see some manuscripts for both adult and YA SFF that play with theme and form. Loves hard science and space opera, galactic battles, spacefaring bandits and adventure stories set in space!
Thriller/Suspense with a focus on psychological thrillers that really mess with your mind. Think Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn and A Killer's Mind by Mike Omer. She loves strong female leads and if it's #OwnVoices or written by author of color, even better!
Mystery and Crime fiction with that whodunit you're chasing to uncover in a small town or metropolis. She likes cozy mysteries and LOVES murder mysteries with a thrilling pace. Would love a YA mystery featuring a diverse cast of kids solving a crime!
In the YA romance market, she’s always looking for stories that feature POC main characters in contemporary romance, science fiction/fantasy romance or historical romance settings. She’d love to see a gothic romance story featuring young love where The Addams Family meets Beetlejuice meets Modern Family. Would love an urban fantasy romance featuring dragon shifters or gargoyles (or both) featuring Latinx main character. Dying for character-driven stories of young people making a difference in the world and finding love in the process.
In the MG market, she's especially drawn to #OwnVoices historical fiction, horror and graphic novels. Would love a book about historical eras and places we don't always cover in school. Would love more Latinx historical fiction in middle grade!
In the GLBTQIA market, she's always looking for more erotic romance and sweet romance stories featuring characters who identify as “queerâ€. She's also actively seeking #OwnVoices young adult and new adult GLBTQ romance titles. Would love a sports romance featuring GLBTQ characters in non-traditional sports: lacrosse, extreme sports, martial arts, rodeo, parkour, longboard, rock climbing, geocaching, stand-up paddling, etc. And because she’s a geek, a fun romance story featuring gaming at its core: tabletop, video games, or RPGs.
